Community Links

At Oaklands we pride ourselves in being part of the community:

Being Part of the Team

We are very proud to have been adopted by Yeovil Town Football Club as part of their programme of building links across the community. The programme builds upon their previous work across Somerset and Dorset to deliver fun, safe and enjoyable activities for all people of all ages, abilities and social backgrounds by using the power of sport as well as the profile of Yeovil Town FC to have a positive impact on people’s lives.

Singing and celebrations

We enjoy walking the short distance to our local church and celebrating Christmas and Easter together.

Furthermore, our very talented choir also enjoys spreading seasonal cheer to several of our local residential/nursing homes, including The Knoll, Tyndale House and Grovelands.

Supporting Smooth Transitions

We work closely with our secondary colleagues and are always keen to support smooth transitions. We encourage this by ensuring that we attend as many of their musical and theatrical performances as possible – we particularly enjoyed the outstanding production of Oliver!

During each term in Year 5, some of our children visit Westfield Academy to work with some of the Year 7 children. The children work on team building and leadership skills, and together they have great fun completing a range of activities, including playing basketball and making pizzas to name but a few. In addition, we support the performing arts department by attending and hosting their concerts and dance shows.

We also work closely with our colleagues at the local specialist schools, ensuring that we find the right educational path for our children.

Building Futures

Throughout each year, our experienced teachers work closely with the Yeovil Area Teacher Training Alliance to provide the excellent school-led initial teacher training programme, School Direct. This programme allows student teachers to be placed within schools for a full training year so that they can train and teach at the same time, providing them with invaluable hands-on training.

Working with Local Businesses

Year 6 works with Leonardo Helicopters, who support them with their learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Raising Awareness of Internet Safety in the Community

Our E-Safety committee promote being safe on the internet by going into town and compiling ‘Staying Safe on the Internet’ questionnaires with members of the public.

Supporting Local Charities

School in a Bag LogoOur School Council support local charities, by helping to raise awareness and much needed funds.

Amongst other charities, we raise funds for School in a Bag and Yeovil Hospital Charity.
