Safeguarding

'Safeguarding is Everyone's Responsibility'

If you have a concern about a child's welfare or worries that they are being abused, please contact one of the safeguarding team in school. Alternatively,  you can ring Somerset Direct on:

0300 123 2224

You can also ring 999 if a child is in immediate danger.

We are committed to promoting the welfare and safeguarding of all children at Oaklands Primary School and expect everyone to share this commitment. In line with our safeguarding policy and statutory guidance, we have clear procedures in school for responding to any concerns about a child’s safety or well-being.  If you have a concern, you can speak to any of the school’s designated and trained Safeguarding Officers.

Safeguarding Children Statement

Oaklands Community Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Staff: Our recruitment and selection processes are rigorous and comply with the County Council’s guidance. All staff are cleared by the DBS with volunteers cleared as applicable. All staff receive training and are aware of safeguarding and child protection issues and responsibilities.

Children: We listen to our children and take seriously what they tell us. On rare occasions, a concern about a child may mean that we have to consult other agencies before we contact you. Children feel they are in a safe place and that their concerns will be listened to. We closely monitor attendance and behaviour as part of our safeguarding procedures.

Security: The school site is protected by security fencing and there are procedures and policies in place to keep our children safe. The school has a signing in system for all visitors and all external doors are controlled by an electronic access system. Contractors on site are monitored. We hold termly fire drills.
