School Awards

We are very proud of our school and the opportunities we provide for our pupils. The breadth of our curriculum and extra-curricular activities available to our pupils has been recognised in the awards we have received:

The 360 degree safe online safety self-review tool has been used by more than 13,000 schools across the UK since its launch in 2009. We have a full class sets of Chromebooks as well as class sets of iPads that are used to fulfil our forward-thinking computing curriculum. Children understand the impact of their digital footprint and respect the wonders and dangers of the ‘World Wide Web’. This is especially important when children are accessing activities at home.  We are really proud to be one of the schools to have been awarded the Online Safety Mark in recognition of the high quality in their online safety provision. To maintain this award, the school has to be rigorously assessed every three years – well done Oaklands!

The School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Participating in this process allows schools to evaluate their PE provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress. Its mission is to keep competitive sport at the heart of schools and providing more young people with the opportunity to compete and achieve their personal best. The School Games comprises of both Intra and Inter-school competitions leading to County Finals as well as a biennial National Finals event and consists of four unique types of competition: intra-school competitions, local inter-school competitions, county finals, and the School Games National Finals.

The International School Award rewards schools that have shown a commitment to embedding international awareness and understanding within their class or school. This is achieved by completing collaborative, curriculum-based work with a number of international partner schools, involvement of the wider community. The International School Award is available in 16 countries and is well-regarded by school inspection bodies and ministries of education globally.

At Oaklands, we have an amazing Forest School and opportunities for our children to explore our vast green and wooded areas as part of our curriculum. The Green Tree Schools Award is presented by the Woodland Trust in recognition of the school’s contribution to environmental projects such as tree planting, reducing CO2 emissions and visiting woods. The Green Tree Schools Award encourages outdoor learning and inspires pupils about trees, woods and wildlife, such as making bug shelters and bird spotting, to name but a few exciting activities!  Points are collected for each completed activity, progressing through bronze, silver and gold levels up to the prestigious platinum award. We will be striving for our Platinum Award!

The Eco-Schools Green Flag is an internationally recognised award for excellence in environmental action and learning. The Eco-Schools programme is an ideal way for schools to embark on a meaningful path towards improving the environment in both the school and the local community while at the same time having a life-long positive impact on the lives of young people and their families. We are proud to have achieved the first step in empowering our children to lead change within our school by helping them to develop their environmental awareness in our wider community.

The RSPB Wild Challenge Award replaces the Wildlife Action Awards – an awards scheme for schools and families which has been running since 1988. Thousands of children have taken part over the years, and it encourages children to get closer to the nature and wildlife that can be found on their doorstep. To achieve the Bronze Award, we had to complete six activities: three from Help Nature and three from Experience Nature.

The Healthy Schools rating scheme is a voluntary scheme for schools that recognises and encourages their contribution to supporting pupils’ health and wellbeing. At Oaklands, we promote healthy eating and physical activity across the school.

To help us achieve the award, we politely request that snacks should consist of fruit. Water bottles are brought to school every day and contain only water - children will then have regular access to these throughout the day to maintain hydration. PE kits are kept in school so that every child can participate fully and improve their physical fitness on every occasion.
