This Tuesday we took a team of enthusiastic Year 5’s to Millfield Prep School for a Tag Rugby event. This event started with some warm up and ice breaker activities put on by some young leaders from Millfield and surrounding colleges, helping the children to learn all about tag rugby and how to play. Year 5 children were lucky to have been coached by Ty from YTFC. Ty is a youth coach at YTFC and is responsible for coaching their Under 9’s. He led a session today where the children worked on their team building skills all whilst playing football!! The children will be working with Ty for the next 3 weeks to develop

Year 5 were treated to an immersive Space experience on Monday when they were visited by Jo from Space Detectives. The children were involved in learning all about how the Solar system was formed as well as a practical activity where they made planets move into orbit. They finally created their own human solar system and drew a pocket sized

Children from Years 5 & 6 took part in the local Athletic competition at Westfield, where they participated in running, jumping and throwing events. It was a great competition and they all performed brilliantly! Well done Oaklands!

Oakland’s boys played brilliantly at the YTFC annual tournament at Huish Park. They won 4 out of their 6 pool game matches and they progressed to the Quarter Finals, where they won 2-0. The semi-final was a tough game, which they unfortunately lost! A semi-final place left us in 3rd overall. The boys put on a superb display of football.

As part of their RE topic on Christianity, Year 5 took an Autumnal walk to St James Church on Preston Road. Reverend David Keen greeted us at the door and welcomed us into the Church. Our girls football team were up against some tough opposition at the ESFA area competition at Bucklers Mead. Amazingly we managed to miss the rain entirely and the sun even came out for a while!! A solid effort from the boys in the ESFA tournament. Not the result we wanted but the competition was high this year and the boys put in 100% effort, which is all anyone can ask. A big well done to Eli (year 5) who played in goal with the year 6’s for the first time and excelled greatly. Jack P

Year 5 spent the day exploring the Roman Villa at The Newt in Somerset. This immersive experience allowed the children to imagine what life would have been like living in Roman times. As well as the Villa, the children took part in weaving, mosaic making, repairing old pots and they explored artefacts that would have been used at the time.

Our netball players were dodging the rain last night at another local area tournament at Westfield. They are much improved and we are seeing how they are developing as a team!
