On 30 June 2021, singers all over the world celebrated Sing Up Day. Over 24,200 pupils in 195 schools performed Emily Barden’s inspiring anthem, ‘(We are) Unstoppable’ across 15 countries and 5 continents. Year 5 and 6 had a visitor from Stand Against Violence come in for an anti-bullying workshop, looking at what bullying is and the possible, severe consequences of bullying. The children took it very seriously and were successful in discussing the key impacts of bullying and the different types.

Year 5 children participated in a Dynamo Cricket tournament today at Yeovil Cricket Club. A tough competition with 8 local primary schools taking part. They played 3 pool matches against local schools, winning 2 and losing 1. In literacy, Hares and Hedgehogs have been studying a poem called The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. This poem is based on a true story that the poet heard while he was on holiday in that part of England where highwaymen used to lie in wait for stagecoaches. Each class choreographed their own interpretation of the poem and then they came together

Hares Class walked their socks off on Friday afternoon, going out to Beat the Street. In total they walked 3.3 miles and beat 5 boxes!! Oaklands currently lie in 4th place on the Beat the Street leader board!

At Oaklands, Key Stage 2 were lucky enough to have fantastic, musical students from Preston School visit and perform a concert. We enjoyed listening to well-known songs be played by a variety of instruments, including flutes, violins and beautiful singing voices. We hope that Preston School come back very soon to perform again!

Well done to our netballers this afternoon who played in a tournament at Bucklers Mead. Some brilliant movement around the court and we scored a few goals too!! Overall we came 4th! Well done team!
