In literacy, Hares and Hedgehogs have been studying a poem called The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. This poem is based on a true story that the poet heard while he was on holiday in that part of England where highwaymen used to lie in wait for stagecoaches. Each class choreographed their own interpretation of the poem and then they came together

Hares Class walked their socks off on Friday afternoon, going out to Beat the Street. In total they walked 3.3 miles and beat 5 boxes!! Oaklands currently lie in 4th place on the Beat the Street leader board!

At Oaklands, Key Stage 2 were lucky enough to have fantastic, musical students from Preston School visit and perform a concert. We enjoyed listening to well-known songs be played by a variety of instruments, including flutes, violins and beautiful singing voices. We hope that Preston School come back very soon to perform again!

Well done to our netballers this afternoon who played in a tournament at Bucklers Mead. Some brilliant movement around the court and we scored a few goals too!! Overall we came 4th! Well done team!

On a beautiful Spring evening at Yeovil RFC, Oaklands TAG rugby stars were ‘trying’ their luck in a local area tournament.  This was the first time any of the children had really picked up a rugby ball let alone play in a TAG rugby game, so the first match was a huge learning curve!!   Despite a loss to Holy

On Tuesday, five girls from Year 4 competed in a gymnastics competition which involved a floor routine and a vault. The floor routine involved a forward roll, arabesque, backward roll, front support, press up, shoulder stand and cartwheel. It was a lot to learn! They had great fun and have now qualified for the finals in two weeks time. Well

On Friday afternoon, Year 4 children spent a fun afternoon in the glorious sunshine playing hockey at Sherborne Girls school in a local area competition.  Having spent only a short amount of time learning hockey skills in school, the children worked tirelessly to move the ball around and practise their ball control skills.  Whilst both teams that entered played brilliantly,

Year 5 are learning about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings in history this term. They had an engaging, exciting day with ‘Hrothgar the Viking’ learning all about the weapons they used for battle, myth and legend stories, a tricky game that the Vikings used to play (Hnefatafl) and how they built fires to keep warm.
