The Oaklands Centre
Our Provision
The Oaklands Centre is a specialist primary autism provision. Children are placed with us by the Local Authority from across South Somerset. We currently have 14 places, with the hope that we might be able to expand in the future.
At The Oaklands Centre we use a ‘satellite’ model for our classes, which makes us a hybrid of a ‘traditional’ resource base and a specialist school. We currently have two classes, grouped by age and need, each with their own experienced, well-qualified specialist teacher supported by highly trained specialist teaching assistants.
Our pupils can access the full National Curriculum alongside our enhanced specialist curriculum within our beautiful classrooms. They also have the opportunity to learn and play with their mainstream peers where this is beneficial to their development and progress.
Each pupil is a valued and included member of the whole school community and has access to all the amazing facilities of the wider school. Pupils in base classes participate regularly in the school community, including assemblies, special celebrations, trips, visits and events.
